How to Get Rid of Flies Quickly (Inside and Outside)

We all love spring and summertime but we hate the flies that come along with these two amazing seasons. Flies can be rather annoying and the more we flap around with our hands and arms the more they seem to fly around us. It’s seems that there’s no escaping them.

The lifespan of a fly is about 30 days which isn’t very long but the problem is that in that period of time they constantly multiply and increase in number. Consequently as some die off new ones are born, making it impossible for us to enjoy the beautiful weather outside.
If you thought that it’s impossible to get rid of flies, you’re wrong. There is an easy and effective way to eliminate these annoying parasites, both from inside and outside. We’ve got the perfect solution for your pest problem – a 100% effective, natural and easy way to enjoy your summer days without flies buzzing around your ears.

The most important thing you should remember is that even flies have their weaknesses, and the best way to eliminate flies is to use these weaknesses against them. Flies are repelled by some strong smells so you can use some herbs, essential oils and scented candles as repellents.

Here are the 4 best natural ways to banish flies from your property forever:

  • Lemon and cloves

Cloves and their smell repel flies very effectively but if you add in lemon to the mixture the natural repellent will be even stronger.
Here’s how to make this lemon-clove fly repellent:
You’ll need a lemon and a few cloves. First chop lemon in halves and stick the cloves into the pulp. Just put this remedy on whatever table you’re sitting on and the flies will no longer buzz around you.

  • Peppermint-Lemongrass Repellent Spray

Instead of using the store-bought fly repellents which are loaded with toxic materials and chemicals you can prepare your own natural DIY spray repellent which is guaranteed to provide excellent protection.
The spray we recommend includes peppermint and lemongrass essential oil because they have a potent smell and will successfully repel the pesky creatures.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. dish soap
  • 12 drops Lemongrass essential oil
  • 12 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 1 cup water

Get a spray bottle and add the dish soap and a cup of water in it, mixing it to combine. Add in the essential oils and close the bottle. Shake well and spray your house with it. You’ll be free of flies for 2 weeks for sure. After that, spray again.

  • Homemade Fly Trap

You can get rid of flies by preparing your own fly trap with some ACV and dish soap in a mason jar, or with a rotten fruit and some plastic wrap in a bowl. Here’s how to prepare both traps.

Trap no.1

Needed ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. dish soap
  • 2 cups ACV
  • Mason jar
  • Toothpick
  • Plastic wrap

All you need to do is peel the fruit, chop it into small pieces and place it in the bowl. Cover it with some plastic wrap and pierce it with the toothpick like in the previous trap. The flies will be attracted by the strong smell and will enter the trap. When the bowl is full of flies put the bowl in some soapy water to eliminate the pests, clean the owl and prepare a new trap.

Trap No.2

This trap is easier to make but will not kill the flies, just attract them far away from you.

Needed ingredients:

  • A piece of rotten fruit,
  • A pair of scissors
  • bowl
  • a piece of plastic wrap
  • toothpick

All you need to do is peel the fruit, chop it into small pieces and place it in the bowl. Cover it with some plastic wrap and pierce it with the toothpick like in the previous trap. The flies will be attracted by the strong smell and will enter the trap. When the bowl is full of flies put the bowl in some soapy water to eliminate the pests, clean the owl and prepare a new trap.

  • Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender has a strong smell as well so it can be used as a fly repellent. Here’s the best way to use it:
Put a few drops of lavender essential oil on a sponge and place the sponge in a jar. Close the lid and leave the sponge inside for a few hours to make the smell even more powerful. After a couple of hours open the lid a bit and place it wherever you like in the house.

A few more tips:

  • For the rotten fruit trap make sure to clean the bowls regularly because the smell might become revolting.
  • The mason jars you’ll be using need to be washed well with soap and water.
  • Ecalyptus and citronella essential oils can also be used against flies and other insects
  • You can mix the following dry herbs: lavender, peppermint and lemongrass to repel flies
