What Happens to Your Body 10 Hours After You Apply Nail Polish

Almost every woman in the world uses nail polish on almost a daily basis, but rarely anyone of them is actually wondering if the product is safe for our health.

Actually, nail polish is not so harmless as many people think – in fact, one study has revealed some alarming facts about it which will make you think twice before using it again.

What the study found out

Recently, a team of scientists performed a study on 24 individuals, which used nail polish on a daily basis. After careful observation, all of the participants experienced high levels of triphenyl phosphate 10 hours after applying the product on their nails. The results were confirmed in a follow-up study, which this time included 10 popular nail polish brands. 8 of the brands tested positive on the chemical, with two of them not even bothering to list the harmful compound on the ingredients label.

This shows that 20% of the popular nail polish brands contain an unlisted chemical which can harm your health.

Triphenyl phosphate – what is it?

TPHP, also known as triphenyl phosphate is a harmful endocrine system disruptor. TPHP has been known to affect the human metabolism, growth, hormone regulation and reproduction as well. The compound is especially harmful for younger girls and can hinder their hormonal development and growth. Furthermore, triphenyl phosphate can also irritate and inflame your skin.

Here are some of the other harmful compounds found in nail polish:

A known carcinogen, formaldehyde can dissolve in air and water and has been known to cause asthma, allergies and various respiratory problems. People suffering from chronic diseases are most prone to the dangers of formaldehyde.

Dibutyl phthalate

Some nail polish brands use this compound instead of TPHP, but it’s not exactly better for you. Dibutyl phthalate has similar health risks and can harm your reproductive and endocrine system.

Toluene can irritate your skin and has been known to interfere with proper children growth.
