Monsanto Stunned – California Confirms ‘Roundup’ Will Be Labeled “Cancer Causing”

Monsanto stunned, California confirms ‘Roundup’ will be labeled “cancer causing”.

In a great consumer protection development, a judge in California recently ruled that Monsanto’s Roundup can be required, by California law, to be labeled as a possible cancer threat. While Monsanto will surely challenge the ruling, this is a huge step for consumer protection!

On Friday, a judge in California tentatively ruled that the state can now require Monsanto to label Roundup (with the main ingredient of glyphosate) as a possible cancer threat. If California succeeds in requiring such labeling, they will be the first state to order such labeling.

As ABC news reports:

“Monsanto attorney Trenton Norris argued in court Friday that the labels would have immediate financial consequences for the company. He said many consumers would see the labels and stop buying Roundup.”

The chemical is not restricted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which says it has ‘low toxicity’ and recommends people avoid entering a field for 12 hours after it has been applied.

In court, Monsanto contended that California isn’t beholden to what they call an “unelected foreign body with no accountability to the U.S.”
